Zach Johnson
Zach Johnson is a singer/songwriter originally from Jacksonville, FL. He joined the Army in 2003, in order to support the country he loved. “I actually enlisted before the war even started,” he states. “just because I was deeply affected by the events of 9/11. Little did I know that we would go to war in Iraq the day before I shipped for basic training.” Despite the timing of the invasion, Zach regrets nothing. He knows that everything that he has been through in the past 7 years has helped to shape him as a person, as well as a songwriter. Zach began his music career in the seventh grade when his parents forced him to take up the trumpet. He gained a love of music through this, eventually earning himself a scholarship as a music education major in college. After 2 1/2 years, Zach realized that teaching wasn’t his calling. During this time, however, Zach met his future; he bought his first guitar. “At the time, I was working in a music store, and I had always had an interest in guitar. I mean, seriously, who ever picked up chicks playing the trumpet?” He laughs. “For real, though, I had always been fascinated by the guitar, and decided that it was time for me to learn.” Thus began a rocket ride to songwriting. Within months, Zach had learned the guitar well enough that he began to write his own songs. “Of course the early ones sucked. EVERYONE’S early songs suck!” He laughs, then continues.”..but they gave me a valuable launching point that took me to where I am today.” Zach continues to write songs that draw from his every day life, which offer an honest point of view into the life of a soldier, as well as a view into the life of an every day man. “I’m self aware enough to admit that I’m very self aware.” He pauses, then chuckles at the irony. “I just hope to offer my fans something completely original, though familiar enough to which they could say ‘I know exactly what he means.’ ” ![]()
